Whitianga backpackers have
many attractions such as Buffalo Beach in Whitianga
is perhaps the most well-known beach in Mercury Bay with safe swimming and a
long sweep sandy beach only two minute walk from Cats Pyjamas. There are fish
to catch and shellfish to gather; the relatively sheltered waters of the bay
are great for all water sports, On land there
are bush walks, horse trekking, tours, adventures, shopping & restaurants;
or check out the local artists on Mercury Bay’s Craft Trail, An enjoyable trip is the $2.00 ferry crossing to Ferry
Landing. A short walk up the hill from the ferry leads to Front Beach, one of
the bay’s fabulous beaches, as well as wonderful Lonely Bay down from
Shakespeare Cliff Reserve, Alternatively you can hire a bike and explore
further, visiting popular Flax mill Bay and Cooks Beach.
Back in Whitianga the
Mercury Bay Museum contains a collection of relics and artifacts which recall
the early history of the area. They even have many beautiful places to visit
for relaxation like hot water beach Cathedral Clove. They even have some
activity games for relaxation too like Bone carving sessions, Sea kayaking, Fishing,
Golf, Horse treks, Beach and bush walks, Sailing, Surfing, Mountain biking, Wind
surfing, Snorkeling, Scuba diving, Banana Boating. Backpackers hostel
have good toiletries many travel-size products are available so travelers don't
have to be weighed down with their toiletries. It may be cost-effective and fun
to try out some local beauty rituals such as taking advantage of sulphur baths
or locally sourced mud packs.
Have a Wash while
backpacking; it may not always be possible to have a decent bath or shower,
particularly when traveling in areas where water is scarce. Travelers should
seize every opportunity to scrub up using the facilities at their hostels and
youth hostels. Look for these owner operators, look for the long term
backpackers who work in the hostel, look for the family run business and you
will find the hospitality and friendship that made backpacking the rite of
passage for so many of us. But always remember when backpacking seeks your own
adventures for your own satisfaction.
